It was lovely again to sleep in this morning. After
breakfast and some blogging, Kelsey, Morgan, Justine and I went back to the
beach to buy the souvenirs that we’d forgotten to buy yesterday. We also ate
lunch at an Italian restaurant by the water. This was especially interesting
because none of the staff spoke any English at all. In the past, the waiters
have had at least some English familiarity such that they could fill in the
gaps when we couldn’t remember certain Spanish vocabulary. We had some
difficulty at first, but luckily our waiter was patient. However, the Italian
here was definitely not like it is at home. I think Chile does empanadas much
better.
Later, we had a lovely dinner by the beach (it was
especially exciting because it was paid for by the university). It was so much
fun because we all got to get dressed up, and the restaurant was very upscale.
We started out with a seafood platter appetizer that consisted of shrimp,
lobster, crab, oysters, and some unidentifiable fish (maybe eel). For my entrée
I ordered salad with crab. Then they brought out the most delicious plate of
desserts that I have ever seen. There was tres leches cake, lava cake, flan,
and some other delectable dish. I think these past two days have been 80% food
discussions, but our free time mostly consisted of eating! Hopefully we’ll run
some of it off when we play soccer against the Chileans tomorrow. Hasta pronto!
